About TPO

The primary focus of The Practical Observer is to present techniques that will allow the amateur astronomer to get the most out of his or her observing experience. However, unlike some 'techniques' magazines, that are dazzled by only high-tech ... TPO includes low-tech and sometimes even no-tech when the project warrents it. Not so common methods and areas of study are also covered in the journal such as amateur radio-astronomy, spectroscopy, astro- microscopy, and meteorite collecting. There are also book and equipment reviews and human interest articles as well.

The TPO readership attracts the serious amateur astronomer as well as the beginner looking for direction. This, along with the fact that it covers a wide range of astronomical techniques, allows TPO to appeal to a broader spectrum of readers than many specialty publications.
